The Golden Age

What I love about fashion is that it's always changing and every decade has their own signature look.
Dior's New Look 1947
The 1950s was known as the "Golden Age" in America. The decade that brought Rock and Roll music, TVs and bikinis.

The 1950s was a big step forward for fashion. In 1947 Dior's "New Look" was launched and it still had big impact during the 50s. It was full of skirts that dropped below the knee and emphasized a woman's waist. Women looked elegant and classy. They would show of their figures without revealing too much flesh.

Shorter hair was the way forward during that time. It moved away from the stereotypical view of women having to have long hair. Of course you all know about Marilyn Monroe's blonde retro waves. My favourite hairstyle was the pixie cut which was popularized by Audrey Hepburn in her debut film Roman Holiday and Sabrina. I think that the pixie cut is quite a boyish look but the clothes during that time were very feminine.

Women wore a lot of high waisted clothing during that time to show off their thin waist and curves. They'd mainly wear a midi length skirt or dress that comes in at the waist and then spreads out. It would be accessorized with a big fur coat or scarf. The skirts and dresses are the type of items you'd love to twirl around in when you've got it on. All the clothing pushed towards that hourglass figure unlike the 1940s.

Patterns such as flowers, stripes and polka dots were seen everywhere.
No woman would leave their house without wearing gloves. It wasn't worn to keep hands warm during cold days. It was an accessory. Many young girls went for the poodle skirts and tight fitted jumpers.

Many famous names such as Christina Aguilera and Dita Von Teese keep 1950s look alive. Here is how you can.
